2003 Chevrolet Astro Cargo Van
Introduced in 1985 as a rival to the first front wheel-drive (FWD) minivans, was the medium, truck-based Chevrolet Astro, original participants in this market. The Chevrolet Astro, FWD venture and the full size is still available with either rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), RWD Express is positioned.
For the 2003 model year, the Astro minivan standard receives all-wheel disc brakes. Newly designed 16-inch aluminum wheels go to the LS and LT models passenger; these trim designations are actually option groups. A new, more cost-effective base model with 16-inch steel wheels equipped was added. A two-seat cargo van also exists for commercial applications.
GMC is almost identical with the Astro, but Chevy, Safari van GMC sold better than his cousin by a large margin. Neither was heavily sold.
Produced in a single body length, the Astro rides a 111, 2-inch wheelbase and measures 189.8 inches long overall. A regular length of Dodge Caravan is almost as long as the Astro, while a Dodge Grand Caravan stretches 11 inch longer. Optionally, steps and alleviate withdrawal in the Chevy Astro.
A sliding door is installed only on the passenger side, and flip-up rear cargo doors are standard. Dutch doors with a swing-up rear window after above and twin out doors swing on the bottom are optional. A rear window defroster is included with the Dutch door Setup.
Chevrolet Astro are equipped with a height-adjustable steering wheel, cruise control and power Windows, locks and mirrors. Eight passengers in the cabin consist of two front buckets and a pair of three place rear seats. An optional seven-speed passenger configuration for the LT provides two second row bucket seats instead of the Bank; the LT can optionally have leather seats. With the second and third row of seats, removed, is 170.4 cubic feet cargo space.
A 4, 3-liter V-6 engine produces 190 horsepower. The four speed automatic transmission is equipped with a tow / haul mode, the layer plans changed when transporting heavy loads. A passenger RWD model can pull up to 5,400 £, while the cargo van of able is AWD Astro pull £ 5.800. Trailer loads; provide the 200 to 300 pounds are low. RWD passenger of Astro has a 1648-pound payload rating vs. £ 1.495 for AWD models.
Optional AWD sends usually full power to the rear wheels. At hatching, begins to deliver the system to the power to the front wheels, until the Astro is able to regain traction.
All ABS brakes are standard four wheel disc. Side airbags are unavailable.
Both in terms of size and overall driving experience, the Chevrolet Astro and his cousin are more stripped-down express vans as enlarged venture minivans Safari. Despite improvements in the current models and a load of comfort features, RWD inevitably rather a truck like sensation as you, AOD experience in a FWD venture or his rivals. A workable compromise may be the Chevrolet Astro for ample transport service and a spacious cargo area. But for the daily driving, most people would be more comfortable in a conventional, FWD minivan.
